How do you clean a swimming pool for spring?

The return of fine weather also heralds the return of swimming... provided your pool is ready for use. After several months of winter, the water is often cloudy, the sides are dirty and the equipment needs to be restarted. Spring cleaning is therefore a crucial step to get back on track. But don't panic: with the right steps and the right equipment, this refurbishment can be quick and efficient. Today, equipment such as electric pool cleaners, especially the connected models from Beatbot AquaSense, make this task much easier. Here is the complete guide to restoring your pool to its full clarity... and freshness.

Remove the cover and remove debris

The first step is to remove the winter cover or flap. Do this gently to prevent the debris that has accumulated on it from falling into the water. Then use a net to remove the largest items of waste from the surface: leaves, branches, insects, etc.

If you have used an overwintering float, remove it as well. At this stage, there is no need to empty the pool completely: a good targeted clean, accompanied by appropriate treatment, is sufficient in most cases. The aim is to do a basic clean to prepare for the robot.

Restart the filtration and check the equipment

Before using products or a robot, you must restart the filtration system. Clean the pump pre-filter, check that the sand or cartridge filter is working properly, and open all valves.

Leave the filtration system running continuously for 24 to 48 hours to stir the water and facilitate the dissolution of residues. You can then measure the water parameters (pH, chlorine, alkalinity) and adjust the treatments accordingly. This gradual restart is essential for effective cleaning to follow.

Use a robot cleaner to save time

Once the water has been stirred, it's time for the robot! Electric models such as the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Pro or Ultra are particularly effective for this type of cleaning. Thanks to their HybridSense™ technology, they map your pool, adapt their route and focus on the dirtiest areas. Their active brushes remove algae, limescale deposits and winter residues from the walls, bottom and waterline. In one or two sessions, your pool will look clean again, without any manual effort. The ideal is to run a full cycle of about 2 to 3 hours depending on the size of the pool.

Treating the water after physical cleaning

Even with a robot, chemical treatment is essential after wintering. Start with a shock treatment with chlorine or active oxygen to eliminate bacteria and micro-algae. Then adjust the pH (ideally between 7.2 and 7.4), check the stabiliser level if you are using chlorine, and check the alkalinity.

A robot equipped with dual filtration, such as the ClearWater™ system of the Beatbot AquaSense Ultra, will have already captured a large part of the microparticles, thus reducing the dose of products needed. You increase efficiency while limiting the impact on the environment.

Don't neglect cleaning the surface

The surface of the water concentrates many pollutants (sunscreen, pollen, leaves, etc.). To prevent these impurities from sinking and saturating your filtration system, consider using a surface cleaner such as Beatbot's iSkim Ultra. Fully solar-powered and self-contained, it works wirelessly and without a connection, continuously from the first rays of the sun. It perfectly complements the work of the bottom cleaner, especially in spring when pollen and flying debris are very present. This combined cleaning is the key to keeping a pool clear as soon as it is put back into operation.

Adopt the right approach for the rest of the season

Once the spring clean has been carried out, adopt a regular maintenance routine to prevent the build-up of dirt. Use your pool cleaner 2 to 3 times a week in high season, check the water parameters every week, and leave the surface cleaner active if you have opted for a model such as the iSkim Ultra.

This effective start determines the whole season: a pool that is well cleaned and balanced in spring will be much easier to maintain afterwards. Thanks to modern technologies such as HybridSense™ AI and Beatbot smart robots, maintenance becomes simpler, faster and much more enjoyable. Enjoy your pool from the first rays of the sun... without the chore!
